London flair to Sydney / by Maiolo Copeland

A chic nineteenth-century house nestled in a leafy setting discreetly tucked away from the hive of activity on the main road, Maiolo Copeland's interior design is rich in antique elegance and accented with a modern eclectic edge.

Integrating the grandeur of London high society homes with the exclusivity of salons in New York , Robert and Chantel have successfully created a unique and prestigious establishment.

Combining these two diverse concepts inspired us to how we could set our salon apart fiom the rest. Our business philosophy is to make our clientele feel spoiled in the comfort and privacy of a home away from home; Robert revealed.

"We chose these particular premises for its exclusivity. It has no shop-front but the intercom system allows our clients to announce their arrival in the same manner as exclusive New York salons,' he added.

'The by-appointment-only buzz-in set-up at Maiolo Copeland guarantees no interruptions from people walking in off the street and a VIP service for our clientele. 'They can relax in complete privacy and not be concerned that someone they know will walk past and see them in their foils,' Chantel explained.

Once you step inside, the Maiolo Copeland salon evokes an ambiance of pure elegance enhanced by the 12-foot ceilings, grand mirrors and polished floorboards that are complimented with a selection of antique and modem furniture pieces that transport you back to nineteenth-century splendour.

A central lighting feature created by Sydney-based UK light and furniture designer David Page for each room - from his design agency Kode Creative - further enhances this atmosphere.

The salon expands across three rooms allowing cut, colour and make-up services to be fluidly separated, with specialist lighting designed for the specific service and synchronised to the ambiance of each room.

A unique feature to the salon is the outdoor courtyard reminiscent of a tropical oasis: 'It's a very peaceful and secluded spot where our clients can sit and take-in some fresh air while they sip on refreshments and wait for their colour to process," Chantel said.

Maiolo Copeland will provide a complimentary make-up retouch with every hair service to ensure the client steps out of the salon feeling refreshed.
