Dealing with over 20 local & international suppliers, Folkways carries an extensive range of CD's, DVD's & vinyl.

Sourced from every corner of the globe, Folkways has a great depth of catalogue as well as the latest releases, with music ranging from Jazz, Blues, World, Classical, Soundtracks, classic Pop, Dance & Electronic.

With a fine toothcomb we have scoured the planet for classic, foreign and arthouse movies and can safely say we have the largest collection in Sydney which includes classics by all the famous directors i.e Fellini, Kurosawa, Bergman to name but a few.

Our music DVD's are equally as diverse as our CD's ranging from Classical, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Country and even some obscure tuition DVD's from respected performers.

   Manu Chao produced 2 nd album from west African duo.
   Fun and funky, combining traditional African sounds with contemporary beats and production. Brings a permanent smile to your dial.
2. Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate - In the heart of the moon.
   Two of Africa 's most famous and well respected musicians combine and improvise in one session to produce maybe one of the most beautiful records in the world. Really, everyone should own this. Hypnotic and so beautiful it may break your heart.
3. Ry Cooder - Chavez Ravine
   Mr Cooder returns home to explore L.A. 's Mexican musical roots. Diverse, different, upbeat, and educational.
4. Francoise Hardy - Tant de belles choses
   French 60's Chantuesse returns with sexy sophisticated record. Cool , beautiful and very French(minus the cheese).
5. Juan De Marcos - Step forward
   The king pin from the Buena Vista Social club, finally gets to put out his own record. Upbeat Cuban sounds for fans of the Buena Vista social club.

DANCE/LOUNGE:

1. Boozoo Bajou - Dust my broom
   Much anticipated 2 nd album from German duo who brought us the classic " satta". Latin, Dub, Reggae, Blues, Ambient and house all combine expertly to give us a real smooth listening experience. Class!
2. Various - Man Ray 4
   The lord of chill- out has returned. Jose Padilla the originator of the Café Del Mar series combines with the cool cats from the Man Ray bar in New York to delight our ears with the freshes,t newest sounds. Cool, calm, funky and oozing style.
3. Various - Buddha Bar 7
   Still going strong, and still uncovering wondrous gems from the minefield of the World fusion genre. DJ Ravin and DJ David Visan combine to furnish our ears with a more Indian and East Asian flavour tan previous Buddha Bar compilations. May not be as fashionable as once was, but still very, very good.
4. j Kicks - Daddy G
   The Tall one from Massive Attack takes a turn on the wheels of steel. Mashing up reggae, funk, soul and dance in a flowing, upbeat and eclectic mix. One of the best DJ mixes we've ever heard. Do yourself a favour!
5. Deep Dish - George is on
   First new studio album since 1998. Quality house music, vocals and instrumentals. You can dance and sing at the same time and wow! guest vocals by Stevie Nicks. Yup, that Stevie Nicks

COUNTRY/FOLK/BLUES:

1. Sufjan Stevens - Come on feel the illinoise
   American singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist bestows upon us his 3 rd in his states of America series. Great story- like songs, open and honest, beautifully fragile in places and rollicking good fun in others. As music should be: liberating, interesting and very moving.
2. Martha Wainright - Martha Wainright
   The dark horse of Americas first family of folk/country rock emerges from the shadows to put the others to shame. Upfront and honestly written songs from the heart, beautiful melodies, stirring sentiments and incredibly layered vocals. This record is a gift that keeps on giving.
